Frankenstein’s monster would work perfectly for an ad campaign for skin products. This would be a perfect fit because the monster’s skin is famous for being green, and if a skin product could turn his skin normal then just imagine what it could do for a normal person. This would allow for humor to play a major role and be a great attention getter. This idea was first implemented by the example of the Osteo-biflex product where the monster’s joints started working better after taking this product. We would implement a similar tactic to the skin care product idea and put him in a Proactive-style commercial.

The commercial would start out with the monster’s face taking up most of the screen with no blemishes and normal pigment. He would then talk about how he wasn’t always that beautiful. Then it would cut to older pictures of him showing his green complexion with scars and whatnot. He has to talk about his personal problems and how he was always self-conscious of his complexion and now he doesn’t have to worry about his green skin and scars scaring people off before they get to know him. This would be humorous and also relatable to people with serious acne problems that severely alter their appearance. This would be a humorous and successful commercial because the legend of Frankenstein is so well known, but with the modern day application this would relate to many people in multiple ways.

A.V. Club vs Oh, The Horror Review of Frankenstein (1931)

The A.V. Club and Oh, The Horror reviews of Frankenstein (1931) are very similar in nature and content. Most of the A.V Club review, done by Keith Phipps, focusses on the aspects of the movie that made it memorable and one of the most potent and enduring horror stories of our generations. It is a short and concise review on this movie with the few sentences it has focusing on the aspects of the movie that make it memorable and iconic to the horror genre. The second half of the article is a review for how the new DVD edition is and whether it’s worth buying. This second half didn’t have many declarations regarding the content of the movie however.

Oh, The Horror review, Brett Gallman, did a much more thorough job on reviewing the movie by going into more detail about certain individual scenes and their significance to the movie. Gallman regularly interjected his personal affection for this movie on a personal level. This simple fact painted the review in a whole new light for me, the reader, knowing it was being done by a true fan. He gives a nod to the actual nature of the book and its differing characteristics to the movies. However, he glazes over the differences with an emphasis on the magnificence of the movie as its own work of art as opposed to being an adaptation of the book.

I enjoyed Oh, The Horror review much more since I got a more personal attachment with the author given his background with the movie and his review went into more detail than the A.V. review did. The A.V. review was far more vague and generalized, which gives the reader the skepticism of the authors credibility on the subject. For this reason, I felt a better connection and confidence with Brett Gallman’s review on Oh, The Horror.

Frankenstein review review

The classic-horror.com review for Frankenstein (1931) was fair and accurate. From the first paragraph, it discusses the importance and impact the movie had on our modern culture and society. After explaining how the movie took some creative freedoms with the layout and portrayal of the monster, it discusses how many people can recognize and distinguish the story of Frankenstein just from the basic characteristics that were used in the movie. The review then starts to recite the plot so the reader will know the basic plot if they don’t know it. The cast is listed and talked about. Boris Karloff is the most important person from the cast and is used as the figurehead for the cast. It explains how Karloff is the ‘enduring image of Frankenstein’s monster’. He is praised for his great acting despite not saying any discernible words. Then it goes on to praise the rest of the cast as well, except John Boles and his role in the movie.

The design of the monster is then talked about, and how much effort was put into making it seem like a believable design. Criminology, surgery, anatomy, burial customs, and electrodynamics were all studied and used as inspiration for designing aspects of the monster in the movie. Karloff’s face was inspirational as well. His face was drawn over and over again and had started to be drawn with certain aspects of the monster that they wanted to be shown in the movie. The makeup was later copyrighted by Universal since it became so iconic and representative of the story and idea of Frankenstein and his monster. To conclude the review, the author compliments the film on how there are so few scenes to critique, since so many of them were excellent. The author finally gives in and choose the monster’s reveal as the only questionable scene in the movie for being too subtle and underplayed. The review wraps up with praise for the movie and compliments it for being one of the most iconic horror movie to date.

I’m trying to get used to this blogging idea, even though I don’t ever think about publishing my thoughts on the internet…especially if they’re clean thoughts. I’m just kidding, I do that a lot as you’ll probably find. I try to stay humble granted how amazing I am.

When I have to stretch a subjectless post to be really long, I tend to talk about whatever’s passing through my mind at that moment. See below

I’m kind of bored at the moment and would like to eat a fat juicy cheeseburger. I think I’ll go to McDonalds after this, except it’s about -238°K outside which is impossible, yet an accurate representation of how cold I got walking across campus.
